hi and welcome to whatever this is
we are a somewhat newly "discovered" non-switching system and we wanted to have a place where we can explore that. it's mainly for us. maybe we'll end up sharing it with people we trust, but probably not. at least for a while.
but still, a disclaimer: we'll likely use language that others may not like or use for themselves. as a rule, we are only talking about ourselves, our system and our experiences. nothing is meant in a generalizing way and it is never our intention to invalidate anyone.
we kinda got inspired by systems on tumblr where system members had their own blog, which seemed like a cool idea. however, we're not on tumblr, don't know the etiquette, codes, laguage, etc. and the environment seems very intense and divisive. that would be scary in the best circumstances, but especially during a time and process that feels vulnerable. so we thought this could be a better way for us.
no idea how to structure this, so let's just go with "who what when where why how".
who
we either call ourselves "the null system" or "the numbers station", depending on which part of our experience is currently stronger or more relevant. it's kinda vibe-based. "null system" is more focused on being a system (no surprise) and of the members as individuals. "numbers station" is more connected to us being non-switching, having a shell and unified presentation. collectively we use he/him and it/its pronouns. we consider and call ourself/ves plural and a system, but not multiple.
we (as a collective and all of us individually) are autistic and have adhd. the body-host-thing (hardware) also has insomnia, chronic illnesses and a resulting physical disaility. we're also trans, but the opinions on whether that's a body or collective thing, differ - but we all experience dysphoria. similair thing with eating disorders. overall we definitely have one and no one of us has a healthy relationship with food, but the ways and reasons are different.
we're in our twenties and for practical / pragmatic reasons, all of us are adults, even the ones who don't feel like it.
we are not diagnosed with a dissociative disorder. at the moment (august 2025) we're not in therapy and instead concentrating on getting our physical health figured out and hopefully accomodated. that's the current priority. maybe once that is done we'll look into getting trauma therapy. it's something we're definitely interested in / open to, because we might have C-PTSD (again, opinions among ourselves differ).
currently we consist of:
- HOST
- MEMBERS (BASE): flint, kepler, nicholas, robin, vale
- BLURS (MEMBERS): angel, viktor, silas
- BLURS (MODES): 13, j, eden
what
in "pluralpedia" terms, we're an orbital, median-ish non-switching system with a fronstuck shell and something modular going on (more on that below). we mostly interact through blurring / blending, layering, bleedover and passive influence.
we probably don't have amnesic barriers. our memory is weird and not always reliable, but we don't know if that's because of adhd, brain fog, dissociation or trauma*. we definitely have emotional amnesia tho, which might also be sdam or part of alexithymia. it's all vague and fuzzy.
our (collective) names come from our two main comparisons / analogies that we use to explain and understand ourselves.
- null system: we're like a planetary system, specifically one in which planets, protoplanets, debris and dust orbit a neutron star.
- numbers station: we're like a radio station, with one host who sits in the booth and more people who work in the background.
regarding modularity:
we're not completely sure if we are modular or on the modular spectrum, but some aspects are very relatable. for us, it often feels like there is a relatively set number of particles that contain everything. they are the smallest parts: singular experiences, thoughts, interests, etc.
currently these particles assemble into 5 distinct, stable, recurring patterns (flareframes or nebulas), which are our base members. the "potential" and material for the patterns is always there, even if the particles are currently just floating around.
base members or at least a significant amount of their particles, can also stack / merge / blur into and with each other, which is how every other member is formed. for example: viktor is a blur out of kepler and vale's particles, so when he is present, the other two aren't.
the previous iteration had 3 base members and while they are gone, their particles are still present and traceable. so while this system has been stable for over a year now, it's completely possible that the patterns collapse and the particles rearrange.
when
above we said "somewhat newly discovered". vague terms are hard, so who knows what counts as "new". we first labeled our experience as potentially plural in spring 2024, but it was more of a rediscovery / reframing. we distincly remember having and/or being a system years before that, but we didn't call it that. we didn't have the language for it, so we mostly classified it under "maladaptive daydreaming" (which we did) or "being weird" (which we are).
where
we don't have a headspace as far as we know. probably because of aphantasia? some of us do have a vague "appearance" but that more of a metaphor / symbolism than literal descriptions.
why
we're not sure what our "origin" is and while it doesn't matter when it comes to "validity" or something, it matters to us. we would like to know and understand. "adaptive" might be a vague description? the current theory is a mix of factors, including: autism, alexithymia, masking and trauma*.
[*we are always hesitant to call what we experience(d) "trauma" because we aren't really able to perceive our reactions to it and often struggle to recognize whether something "traumatized" us or not. with some things we are pretty sure, others are more debated.]
how
we don't know how this will work yet. it would probably be a good idea to have an introduction for everyone at the beginning of their section, so we'll do that first.
